Archive for Installation Q & A

The last several days, I’ve been spending a lot of time replying to emails.  Most of the questions had to do with phone compatibility, suspicious spouses, concerned parents, and a bunch of general spy phone questions.

One thing thing that stood out to me, was the large number of BlackBerry related questions.  Not sure why, but it seems BlackBerry is a platform that produces the most questions from people who either have just purchase BlackBerry spy software and are now having problems, or people who are about to purchase BlackBerry spy software and are confused with a few things.  This got me thinking that perhaps creating a ‘BlackBerry spy software buying tips’ blog post, would help anyone about to buy BlackBerry spy software — not make the same mistakes that others have made in the past.

Here is that list.  I created it by going back and looking at all the BlackBerry related emails I received this year.

BLACKBERRY SPY SOFTWARE BUYING TIPS

1) VERIFY THE BB IS ON A DATA PLAN

dataplan

Before you buy BlackBerry spy software, MAKE SURE the BlackBerry that you are installing the software on has a data plan.  A data plan essentially enables the phone to connect to the internet, using the phone’s browser.  A quick way to check, is to open up the browser and try to visit any external website such as Amazon, Google, etc.

Not only is a data plan required in order to install the software, but it’s also required to upload the logs that are recorded on your target’s BlackBerry.  Most of the data plans come with an unlimited package (as shown in the screenshot above for AT&T’s BlackBerry packages), but there are situations where your target chose NOT to subscribe to a plan.  This is common for anyone on a prepaid plan (although Boost Mobile has recently begun to offer unlimited data plans), and GSM networks outside the US.

One important point to bring up.  If you find out that your target is on a data plan, but unfortunately NOT on an unlimited plan, then you might want to think twice about installing BlackBerry spy software on their phone.  Even at the most optimal settings, such as you set the software to report only once every 24 hours, and you disable the GPS tracking, the software will still deplete the prepaid balance at an aggressive pace.

In summary, the best scenario is for your target’s BlackBerry to 1) be on a data plan, 2) the plan is an unlimited package.

2) OS v4.x OR v5.0? YOU NEED TO CHECK!

BlackBerry OS Version

Before you make you purchase BlackBerry spy software, it’s also highly advisable that you verify the OS version of your target’s BlackBerry.  The reason is that not all BlackBerry spy software supports OS v5.0.

For those of you who do not know how to check the OS version, it’s very simple.  Just follow these steps.

1) Open the Options folder on your target’s BlackBerry. The icon should have an image a wrench.

2) Select ‘About’ from the list.

3) Now look at the third line (see the screenshot above). If you see v4.x, then that particular BlackBerry will support all of the popular BlackBerry spy apps on the market.  If you see v5.x, then you are only limited to the ones that support this version.

Both MobiStealth (www.mobistealthSPY.com) & Mobile Spy (www.mobile-spy.net) support OS v5.0, but Flexispy (www.flexispysoftware.com) DOES NOT.   What I’m finding out from various emails, is that since Flexispy has the popular live call monitoring feature, someone who is shopping around see that feature,  and then quickly buys Flexispy without checking the OS version of their target’s BlackBerry. Then when they try to install the software, all sorts of problem start to occur, and they end up wasting countless hours trying to figure out whats wrong. In the end, they either ask for a refund, or give up and essentially waste $350 bucks on something they could have been prevented.

In summary, knowing the OS version of your target’s BlackBerry, will play a very important role in which BlackBerry spy product you end up purchasing.

3) RESEARCH THE BB’S FEATURES

att8520

A few weeks ago, I received an email from someone who had purchased MobiStealth’s BlackBerry spy software to monitor and track her teen daughter.  She was able to get everything to work except the GPS tracking.  She decided to send me an email to see if I had any idea what the problem was.  After a little bit of research, I realized the problem.  Her daughter’s BlackBerry 8520, did not have GPS.  I emailed her with this, and she replied back that according to AT&T, it does. I went to AT&T’s website and sure enough, they list the BlackBerry Curve 8520, as having GPS.  Unfortunately, this is wrong.

If you go to BlackBerry’s website, or do a quick search for the 8520, you’ll find out that this version does not have GPS.

The whole point of this story, is to recommend that you take the time to ensure your target’s BlackBerry supports all the features of the BlackBerry spy software you are purchasing.  For example, if GPS tracking is important to you, then make sure the phone has GPS. If you choose to spend more money so you can view photos snapped on the BlackBerry, make sure your target’s phone has a camera.

In summary, knowing the features of your target’s BlackBerry phone will ensure you get the most out of your purchase, and save the aggravation of trying to figure out why a particular feature wont work.

4) KNOW WHAT SPY FEATURES YOU WANT

BlackBerry spy comparisons

It’s very important that you understand all the features that you need, BEFORE you purchase the software.  If I were you, I would write down a list of everything you want to do. Read emails, view photos, monitor their PC, track their location, etc. Don’t worry if you are not sure if the feature is offered, just write down all the spy features that are most important.

Now take this list and go to the BlackBerry spy software vendor you are looking at, and find out which version supports the most features.  A common problem I read in various emails, is someone had purchased BlackBerry spy software without really thinking what they needed.  After using it a few weeks, they quickly realized a feature they realy need is not supported.  They then end up having to make another purchase, and go through the whole installation process again.

If someone were to ask me which BlackBerry spy software to purchase, I would recommend the following:

Do you need to listen to live calls? >> Flexispy (www.flexispysoftware.com) is for anyone who needs to listen to live calls.  Their top of the line PRO-X version enables you to listen to live calls (does not work on CDMA networks), view emails, text messages, emails, remotely listen to your target’s surroundings via a spy call, has remote SMS commands, and more.  If you need to listen to your target’s calls, Flexispy PRO-X is your only option at the moment.

The downside? It’s $350 bucks.

Want a way to spy on their BlackBerry and PC? >> Mobile Spy (www.mobile-spy.net) has all the “must have” features such as viewing text messages, emails, contacts, GPS tracking, and they’ve even recently added a way to view photos and videos.  What Mobile Spy also offers is a FREE copy of their powerful PC monitoring software called Sniper Spy (www.sniperspypc.com) with a purchase of a one year license .  Sniper spy enables you to view just about everything your target does on their PC.  You can view chats, keystrokes, snapshots of the screen, and it has a real cool live PC monitoring feature where you can watch your target as they use their PC in real time.  In addition, you can remotely grab and view files stored on their PC and it has a remote installation feature.  For less than $100 bucks, you get a very solid BlackBerry spy software application, and a powerful PC monitoring program.  No other BlackBerry spy software offers this cell phone / PC combination.

The downside?  Mobile Spy doesn’t have all the features offered by Flexispy & MobiStealth such as live call monitoring and spy call.

Want the best value for money? >> MobiStealth PRO (www.mobistealthSPY.com)  is my new favorite BlackBerry spy software product.  The great thing about MobiStealth, is it does just about everything Flexispy PRO-X does (MobiStealth does not offer live call interception),  at a much lower price.  Although I’ve always been a very big fan of Flexispy, it’s hard to not  recommend MobiStealth for anyone who does not need to listen to live calls.  If you look at the screenshot above, you’ll see a feature by feature comparison of both MobiStealth PRO  and Flexispy PRO.  You can see right away that MobiStealth not only offers a lower price point than Flexispy PRO, but it has more features.  It’s definitely the best BlackBerry spy software for anyone who wants the most features, at the lowest price.

The downside? MobiStealth is relatively new to the spy phone industry, so their product has not been in the hands of as many people as Flexispy.  This means you “might” experience an occasional hiccup. For example, some customers reported that spy call recordings were not always working.  When this got back to MobiStealth, they quickly added a LIVE spy call feature that enables anyone having problems to still perform a spy call.

5) MAKE SURE YOU CAN ACCESS TO THE PHONE

accesstobb

The final and MOST IMPORTANT buying tip is to MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE PHONE!

You have no idea how many emails I’ve received asking how to remotely install BlackBerry spy software. So many people are  purchasing the software without even having a way to access their target’s BlackBerry.  If you only remember one thing in this blog post, remember that YOU MUST HAVE PHYSICAL ACCESS TO THE PHONE.  My apologies for going nuts on the CAPS, but this is still one of the most common problems I’m coming across.  The reason you must have physical access to the BlackBerry, is because the BlackBerry spy software is downloaded directly into the BlackBerry, so without physical access, there is no way you are going to install it. This also means if you can’t get past your target’s PIN code, you wont be able to install the software.

In summary, there is absolutely no way to install BlackBerry spy software without  access to the phone.

If you are in the market for BlackBerry spy software, make sure you go through these five steps, and if you still hav questions, send me an email, and I’ll be more than happy to answer your questions.

Good luck!

Compatible Phone?

Determining if your target’s cell phone will support the installation of spy phone software, should be one of the first things you do prior to purchasing.  It’s easy to spot an iPhone or BlackBerry, but what should you do when you have absolutely no idea if your target’s cell phone is running Android, Symbian, or Windows Mobile?  To find out if your target’s cell phone is supported, here are a couple QUICK and EASY options.

OPTION #1: Go to the spy phone vendor’s website and see if your target’s cell phone is listed.  Check for a tab or link on their website that says Supported Phones, Compatibility or something similar.  The three main spy phone vendors Flexispy, Mobile Spy, & MobiStealth all have pictures of each supported phone type, so they do make it easy.

Using this option is great if your target has a phone that’s been on the market for a while, but if they have a cell phone that’s just hit the market, you probably won’t see it listed on the vendor’s website. This is where Option #2 comes in.

OPTION #2: Do a quick online search yourself and find out right away.  Performing a search on your own is actually quite easy if you know where to go.  My favorite resource to check on phone compatibility is CNET Reviews.  When readers email me wanting to know if a specific phone is compatible, I’ll always reply back with a link to a review from CNET.  Just follow these three easy steps.

1) Go to http://reviews.cnet.com and do a search for the phone.

CNET Search Box

2) Look for your phone within the search results, and then click on the one that best matches your search query. Once the review page loads, you’ll see a series of small tabs. What you’ll want to do is click on the ‘Specifications’ tab as shown below.

Specifications Tab

3) Now scroll down and look for the ‘Communicator Features’ section.  If you see either Google Android, Symbian OS, or Windows Mobile, then you’ll be able to install spy phone software on your target’s cell phone.

Communicator Features

Just remember that not all vendors support all OS types.  Here is a quick summary of each company, and what they support.

FLEXISPY – BlackBerry, iPhone, Symbian, & Windows Mobile

MOBILE SPY – Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Symbian, & Windows Mobile

MOBISTEALTH - Android

In a perfect world,  the best thing to do would be to do a quick search as described above and verify that your target’s cell phone is supported.  Then just to be 100% sure, send an email to the spy phone vendor and ask them to confirm that the phone is supported.  There could be a legitimate reason why a specific cell phone is not listed on their site as a supported phone.  In probably 9 out of 10 times, if you see that your target’s cell phone is running a supported OS, you wont have any problems installing spy phone software, but it’s always good to double check.

Have fun,

Spy Phone Software Remote Installation

I continue to get a lot of emails from people who want to know if it’s possible to install spy phone software without ever getting their hands on the person’s cell phone that you want to spy on. I’ve discussed this in the past, but I want to bring it up again because it’s still a question that is asked several times a day.

The quick & easy answer is a big “NO!”

There is absolutely no way to install spy phone software sold by the two leading spy phone vendors, Mobile SpyFlexispy, because you must install the software directly on the target’s cell phone.

Now this of course does not include hackers and legitimate scams out there that attempt to install Trojans, or games you download that have a backdoor to send out usage data. I’m only talking about commercial spy phone software that you can purchase online.  Although technically possible, offering remote installation opens up the possibilities for a plethora of abuse. It’s just not worth it. I’ve personally spoken to the owners of both Flexispy & Mobile Spy, and both are in agreement on this.

Installing spy phone software is not difficult if you follow the spy phone vendor’s instructions. Both have detailed steps with screenshots to help you every step of the way.

Here is a quick overview of the basic steps.

  1. You find a way to get your hands on the target’s cell phone.
  2. Then you fire up the cell’s web browser,
  3. Enter the URL provided to you by the spy phone vendor.
  4. Download the software, install, & configure.

As you can see, when you take a few steps back, installation is not difficult. However, without physical access to the cell phone, none of the above steps is possible.

Many people ask me how long it will take & if installation is difficult. This is really a tough question to answer. Total installation time should take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour, but it really depends on your experience level with using cell phone applications, mobile web browser, etc.

One thing I do advise people is that before you even think about installing spy phone software, take time to go through each step and make sure you understand what each step says to do. If not, send the spy phone software vendor a quick email and ask them to clarify. It will be a lot less stressful if you thoroughly understand each step.  It’s also wise to have a story or excuse in mind if you were to get caught during installation. A quick “I’m downloading a special ringtone.” will do wonders to ease any suspicion the other person might have. I would even go as far to recommend downloading a ringtone  or game first.  This does two things for you.  1) It gives you a bit of experience downloading something, and navigating the cell phone a bit to install.  2) If you do run into problems and/or get caught during installation, you can show them what you were doing.

The good news is that once you do install the software, there should not be any reason to get access to their phone again. In fact, Flexispy has a cool SMS remote control feature that enables you to control a variety of settings — including removing the spy software.

So what should you do if you cannot get physical access to the target phone? Definitely don’t waste your money on spy phone software.  I repeat, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.  I know there are few sites out there claiming that you can remotely install spy phone software for all cell phones such as Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone using technologies such as Bluetooth. Do not believe what they advertise. If you do, its your loss.  I’ve received countless emails from people who’ve purchase bluetooth spy software because they were told having access to the target phone was not necessary. Unfortunately, this is a big lie. Even if those bluetooth spy products worked, you’d still need access to target phone to “pair” the two devices. This is after you are lucky enough to ever get the software to work.

Bottom line, without physical access to the cell phone, there is absolutely no way you are going to get spy phone software on it.

If you can’t get physical access, what are your options?

You can do any of the following:

1) Ringtones, Games, & Wallpaper. Find a way to get access to your target’s BlackBerry so you can install the spy phone directly on the phone. Tell your target that there is a cool new game you want to download for them, or a ringtone, wallpaper, etc. You can also tell them that you need to use their phone because your battery is low, then take a quick bathroom break or something similar where you can be alone for a bit.  Remember, by now you should have studied the installation instructions so you know exactly what to do. Perhaps even print out a cheat sheet that you created.

2) Great Gift Idea. I know this sounds a bit overboard, but if you’re concerned that your spouse might be cheating on you, investing in the latest iPhone, BlackBerry, or Android phone will be worth the money if this is the only way for you to get a spy phone in your target’s hands. New models of cell phones come out all the time, just look at all the recent hype surrounding the Motorola Droid & Google’s Nexus One.  Buying a new cell phone would be a perfect way for you to take all the time you need to install the spy software, configure, test it, etc. and then give to your target as a gift. Valentines day is fast approaching. hint hint

3) Look For Alternate Ways. For example, what two technology items are most used today? I’d say cell phones and computers. If you can’t get access to one, go for the other one and purchase PC spy software. Any google search for “PC Spy Software” will turn up at least 40-50 different PC Spy vendors. My personal favorite is Sniper Spy, because it has a cool live monitoring feature and by the way, it also has a remote installation feature.  If you purchase an annual license to Mobile Spy’s software, they will throw in a free license to Sniper Spy.  This will get you both spy phone & PC spy software for a tad under $100 bucks.  You can start with the PC spy software, then go for the cell phone spy software once you are able to get your hands on their phone.  I’ve looked at numerous other PC spy software vendors such as SpectorSoft & WebWatcher, but none give you Live PC Monitoring that Sniper Spy does.

Other options include Google’s Latitude application which allows you to track the movements of a person using Google Maps. However, they will have to ‘opt in’ to being tracked, so if you want to do this secretly, there is always GPS tracking devices you can place on (or in) their car. Just do a Google search for GPS tracking devices and you’ll see hundreds listed. You can also find out who they call most often via looking at their cell phone records (if you have access to them), and then do a reverse phone look up using many of the reverse phone look up services, such as Cell Phone Snoop.

Now you know, that no matter what you read online, there is absolutely no way to remotely install spy phone software, but at least there are numerous other options you have at your disposal to come up with a way to get your hands on your target’s phone, or perhaps use an alternative method to spy on your target.

If you have any questions, be sure to send me an Email.
