<UPDATE -> November 6, 2009: Mobile Spy has released the world’s first Android monitoring software, and Motorola DROID is listed as one of the compatible Android devices. For more information, click HERE. So much for my guess of being one or two months away. )
Not sure how many of you have seen those Motorola Droid ads, but I thought it would be fun to create a parody of their Droid ad by giving it a “spy phone” theme. What do you think?
As you probably have seen, Motorola’s new Droid cell phone is getting a considerable amount of buzz, and it seems that the actual product may live up to all the hype. If you haven’t seen any details on the Droid phone, you should check out this great Droid review.
With the holiday season fast approaching, I think a lot of people have the Motorola Droid on their Christmas wish list because I’m starting to get emails from people asking me if there is, or if there will be, monitoring software available for the Droid.
The short answer is yes.
The Droid cell phone uses Android as the OS, and I know for a fact that there are at least three different vendors currently developing monitoring software for the Android OS. My guess is that we are only a month or two away from the first Android monitoring software, but it’s tough to say because all the vendors are keeping their own actual release date under wraps so their competitors won’t know what they are up to.
So what will Droid monitoring software feature? Based on the features planned for Android, you can expect some or all of the following:
- Read Text Messages – Ability to read text messages that are sent or received from the Droid phone.
- View Call Logs – View the Droid’s call logs, such as incoming and outgoing calls with the contact name that is associated to the phone number.
- GPS Tracking - This is a given as well. GPS tracking will be a primary feature of Droid monitoring software.
Here are a few possible features based on a few rumors I’ve heard. Don’t forget that these are only guesses based on rumors I’ve heard, so if you don’t see some or all of these features available when Android monitoring software is released, please don’t send me any hate email.
- Picture Uploads - This new feature will enable a person to remotely access the pictures in the Droid phone.
- Remote Camera Activation – This Droid feature will activate the Droid’s camera and then upload the picture to a secure online account..
In summary, Droid monitoring software, which is based on Google’s Android OS, is definitely coming soon. Most likely it will be available before Christmas.
