Spy Phone Q & A #1 > Can You Install Spy Phone Software Remotely?
By
This is going to be the first of many Spy Phone Q & A posts I’m going to publish.
Every day, I get a plethora of emails from people all over the world asking very similar spy phone questions. I feel that rather than continue to answer these questions in a private one-on-one email exchange, it would be better to publish the most commonly asked questions on my blog. I’ll still continue to respond to emails, but before you email any spy phone questions, please scan the new ‘Spy Phone Q & A’ category first to see if I’ve already answered your question.
Thanks.
Now lets get started…..
Question #1: Can you install spy phone software remotely? In other words, must I have physical access to the cell phone I want to spy on?
Spyphone Guy: The quick answer is NO. You cannot install spy phone software remotely, and you MUST have physical access to the phone. There is absolutely no way around this.
Not a single spy phone vendor on the market today, is selling any type of spy phone software that has remote installation. I’ve actually spoken to a few of them, and they’ve told me that although it’s technically possible, they would never develop it. There is just too much opportunity for abuse. Not to mention the legal ramifications that a spy phone vendor would incur.
Currently, most spy phone vendors walk a fine legal tightrope between between selling spy phone software for personal use, and breaking privacy laws of most countries. They get around this by advertising spy phone software as a way to back up your phone data, monitoring employees, and protecting your children. A few spy phone vendors, even go a step further by promoting spy phone software as a way to catch cheating spouses. Regardless of the way spy phone software is advertised on and offline, the entire market would change once a vendor decides to start offering spy phone software with remote installation capabilities. The legal ramifications the company would incur would be far exceed any type of temporarily financial gain. They would essentially be driving a stake through the entire industry. There would no longer be any distinction between a rogue mobile virus/trojan developed by a hacker to wreck havoc on mobile phones throughout the world, and spy phone vendor selling spy phone software. Unless you are a government agency, or some sort of spy phone ninja / secret agent, I don’t think you’ll ever be able to get your hands on spy phone software with remote installation capabilities.
So what should you do if you cannot get physical access to the target phone? Definitely don’t waste your money on any type of spy phone software. I repeat, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I know there are few sites out there claiming that you can remotely install spy phone software, or use other technologies such as Bluetooth. Do not believe what they advertise. If you do, its your loss.
My recommendation is that you either find a way to get access to the target phone, or you look for alternate ways to monitor them. For example, what two technology items are most used today? I’d say cell phones and computers. Which means, if you can’t get access to one, go for the other one. Any google search for “PC Spy Software” will turn up at least 40-50 different PC Spy vendors. The one I recommend is Sniper Spy. I’m a huge fan of Sniper Spy because I have yet to find any other PC Spy software that can compete feature by feature. This is not a Sniper Spy review, but I do want to mention that Sniper Spy has remote installation, it records keystrokes, takes screenshots of the remote PC, uploads the logs to a secure remote server, and best of all, has LIVE PC monitering. This means you can actually monitor a PC in real time. Think about it. Now you can watch your target’s PC in real time as they chat, surf the web, etc. Like I said, there are a lot of vendors out there, so please do your research, but if you want my opinion, no other PC Spy software can compete with Sniper Spy.
Now you know, that no matter what you read online, there is no way to install spy phone software remotely, so you will have to find other ways to get the information you want.
If you still have questions about remote installation, send me an email or leave a comment and I’ll do my best to clear things up.

ok….in another part of your blog you said the estealth DID work as advertised (can install the software remotely through bluetooth) but here you said it cant be done. im confused. if it truely cant be done why does estealth advertise that it can? are they a scam?

Hi,
Good question actually. Let me clarify what I meant. A product such as E-Stealth, can be installed via Bluetooth, but you do need to have physical possession of the phone in order to “pair” up the devices. This means that once you install the software and activate Bluetooth on both devices, you have to link up both devices so they trust each other. You only have to do this once, but it does require you to have physcial access to the phone in order to do this.
When I say a product such as E-Stealth cannot be installed remotely, what I mean is that you cannot install it if you live in one State, and the person you want to spy on lives in another State. If you read anywhere that you can do this, then its definitely a scam.
In summary, no matter what type of product you are using, you need to have physcial access to BOTH phones. Software must be installed on the target phone, and if using Bluetooth, your phone must be “paired” with the target phone.
Hope this helps!

ok, if I have access to both phones, you are saying that e-stealth will work and that I can read text messages and listen to phone conversations without detection? if I have to install the software onto the target phone (the one I want to listen to) will they know that the software is installed??? And one more question, how do you actually listen to live calls; is your phone muted the whole time?

My boyfriend has a prepaid Sony Ericcson Z300 with no bluetooth and GSM 2G. Is there software that I can use to spy on this phone? I will not be able to install it on his phone because he doesn’t let it leave his sight.

I’ve read about software (like virus) that can be installed by sending it to the target phone (for example through sms). Will this work?

thanks so much, I understood that spy phone cannot be installed without physically having the target phone. but what remains unclear to me is if it is installed once and the owner moves to other cities and is travelling a lot, can i still spy from the spyphone installation that was done physically??

Hi..
I have been reading about these products for the last 3 months, and previously I was looking into it about 1 year ago. My question is as follows: although you state, in a rather irrefutable way, that: (a) specific software is necessary on the target phone for it to be monitored in any way, and (b) to install said software, you must have physical access to it (or proximity access for BT), my knowledge of networks (and we are discussing networks, albeit cellular), is that this is a misstatement.
While I have no doubt that companies on the web are flagrantly misleading people into purchasing their products, what I am trying to determine os wjether the technology changed (as in cell phones now possess better operating systems so as to make it difficult to track them, which given our post-9/11 climate is very unlikely), or has the the legal framework (privacy laws) changed in the last 1-3 years (meaning have laws become more strict in the sale of certain products that perform this type of tracking/monitoring)?
I ask because when I did research this about a year ago, I found one vendor who claimed that its software needed only to be installed on the monitoring phone and nothing needed to be installed on the target phone; furthermore, it stated that the range of operability was not an issue, and that it would work on all phones, all networks, and in every country. The only requirement stated was that for geolocation tracking purposes, the target phone needed to be GPS enabled, and that there might be some issues in installing software on the monitoring phone depending on its model. To me, when I read that, I concluded that, while very interesting in its potential (legal) usage, from what I understand about GSM phones (and even pre-GSM phones), is that all of this can be done remotely. If people are able to wirelessly (or via the ethernet) hack into another’s computer and install a backdoor trojan, then it is easily believable that it can be done now (furthermore, if I recall, as early as 5 or 6 years ago, there was a NY case regarding the mob in which the FBI used the suspects cell phones as “bugs” and could do this even if the phone was off. I also remember reading that technology involving the remote activation of a land line phone’s receiver was used by the government and other people with the knowledge to do so since the 1970s.)
I guess what I am getting at is I want to make sure I understand what you are saying… are you saying “No, it cannot be done without access to the handset, and therefore providers claiming to have software to this are trying to dupe you”, or, alternatively, do you mean “It is possible to remotely monitor a cell phone with or without installation of software on that phone, and if software were to be installed on it, it could, in fact, be done remotely, but this runs afoul of our privacy laws so either the company claiming to offer the software in question is doing it under the radar of the law…. or is trying to scam you out of your money.”
My question was prompted again because about a week ago I saw a company on the web offer a very similar product to the one I had seen a year ago. It claimed that its software product needed no installation of software on the target cekk phone, that it would work with any target phone, voice calls could be monitored, along with SMS, web activity, location, and any number of similar things. One caveat was the model of the monitoring phone had to be able to install the software it needed to this type of monitoring/surveillance.
I am fairly knowledgeable in security for PCs/networks, and wireless (802.11) security is something that I have been working with somewhat for a few years. However, I have not really had a need to investigate cellular technology, but would like to know the security implications that are out there.
I saw that you were the “Spy Phone Guy”, so I came here to see if you could give me a bit more background. Any comments to this post would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Azar,
Here are the answers to your questions.
1 If I want to recorded phone conversion do I need physical phone with me?
SPG> If you mean do you need your phone in order to dial into the target phone than yes. The software will recognize your number and therefore will add you to the call so you can listen in on the conversations.
2 Dose it make any noise while recording?
SPG> The only software that has recording is MobiStealth, and no noise is made. Flexispy has live call monitoring, but no recording.
3 Do I have to keep computer on all the time 24/7? Or just log in to the account and listen conversion
SPG> You use your phone to listen.
4 Does tax messaging and Email will be full version or just the preview?
SPG> Full contents of both incoming and outgoing messages are displayed.
5 Does GPS location show with full address?
SPG> Not the persons address, but it does show full GPS coordinates with a link to Google Maps, so you can zoom in or out. Even get street view.
6 If I active microphone does make any kind flash light or beep sound?
SPG> On some phones, it will make a slight flash, but most of them do not.
7 How to install software and how long it will take? Do you send via email or I have to login the website
SPG> The software is done via a direct download into the cell phone. You will get all the details once you purchase it, with links to download the software along with an installation guide.
the update will be autometicly and if I don’t need I can uninstall and Just incase if I need again do I have to pay again to install software.

I have read in forum you can records any phone conversion from phone book but I would like to know if phone number is not save in phone book still available to records?
Thanks for answer
March 2nd, 2010 at 6:42 pm
Hi Azar,
If you mean can you listen to calls that are not in your phone book, the answer is yes and no. In order to listen to a call, you need to set up the number when installing the software. This means you identify the number that you want to monitor, so when a call is made or received from this number, you will get a text message notifying you a call is taking place. This number doenst have to be stored in the phone book, but it does have to be configured during set up.
Hopefully this answers your question.

Hi ML,
Yes, it is possible to remotely install Sniper Spy. However, keep in mind that Sniper Spy is PC monitoring application. There is still no way to install spy phone software without physical access to the phone.

Hi Lake,
You need to purchase software for the phone you want to spy on. In your case, it’s for the Envy3. However, unfortunately the Envy3 is not a supported phone. The Droid is (MobiStealth or Mobile Spy works), so the only option would be to swtich phones for a while with the person you want to spy on/monitor.
You can check out the details of the Envy3 at http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/lg-env3-slate-blue/4507-6454_7-33665842.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav

The phone I gave my daughter is an Envy2 which I understand is probably not supported for remote spying. She also usually locks it, although forgets sometimes. Is there anything available that would allow me to unlock and download the text messages, even if I need a hardwire or something?

Hi
We recently bought a bluetooth spy software from BIG DADDY SPY aka PHONESTEALTH.COM. The software were downloaded to my PC and transfered to our cellphones (NOKIA & SAMSUNG).
QUESTIONS:
1)How do we now target and spy on our daughters Blackberry phones?. The company is not forthcoming to give us the necessary instructions and all our mails been ignored and returned as of today.
2) Is the software BlueWarePro a SCAM?
Thanks

A boyfriend has been tracking my location by my cell phone. (I have already had my car checked twice with a negative result, by the way.) How has he done this? I know what you say about physical access to the target phone, but money is no object for him and he knows lots of “people.” Could he have some kind of software that is tracking my location only, and not had physical access to my phone??? Please help me with some answers. Also, I noticed one of your readers talked about activating the receiver on a land line, Dylan December 28, since the 1970’s. How is this done. Perhaps he is doing this also because he knows what’s going on in my office and when I’m there. (I guess there could be a bug. I had it swept with a positive result but they could not find the device.) I was confronted by a person who says the boyfriend hired him to do this. This person who confronted me with this information has spent his entire life doing this sort of “work” for various people who are willing to pay for his “services”. I think the reason he told me is because he got into a dispute about payment with this man and was angry with him and so decided to tell me. Please help with real information. I don’t have the financial resources that this man does.

Hello,
I am reading about a lot of spy software claiming a variety of things.
I am somewhat confused and I think Spyphone Guy you have got all the answers. So if possible, please help!
1. Is there any software in market that can ‘LOCATE’ someone just by having their cell numbers (irrespective of what cell phone they are using- could be razr, or old Nokia). And can this happen without getting hold of the other persons phone?
2. Can someone by above means tap someones conversations, texts, chats, etc (i.e without getting hold of others phone and just having his number)
3. If above is possible, can the person track your where abouts if you keep the cell phone off?
Thanks a lot!
